Werewolf

I think the ability to change into a wolf at will is awesome. Not to mention the increase in hearing and smell and muscle I mean what guy doesn’t want to be able to run for miles and then stop and lift a a car like no problem am I right? ( comment below If you think so or if you think another power is cooler) This month I have found myself fascinated with the idea and am currently reading sever series on werewolves. One really caught my eye. It was entitled Werewolf Academy by Cheree Alsop. I Love books that go for the school point of view because it makes the character instantly relate able to everyone.

And the idea of a school for were wolves is very original and I think the author does a good job of creating the school image. I like that they managed to make you like and relate to the main character but still keep them shrouded in mystery. The main character is named Alex and He has a twin sister named Cassie. Who have a special relation ship where she is like the heart and head and he is the body, the protector. Alex is a gamma or a submissive wolf however his attitude refuses to recognize the lower status and he constantly rubs the alphas the wrong way. The book is set in a world that has found out about werewolves and reacted in the way that kept the wolves in hiding in other words they went on a wolf hunt. From what I could glean from parts of the book “wolves” are fiction. there are only werewolves who chose to stay in wolf form for the majority of the time. If you read the book keep that in mind.

If you read the book and understand better than I did comment and tell me what you think. I feel like the author should have put a little bit more focus into the school aspect of things. I have read several books that I found super interesting because of the effort the teacher out into describing the lessons. They also failed to provide a little background which with a lot of stories doesn’t matter. However they really could have used just a bit of background info like in star wars where at the beginning they give you context for the following movie. If the author had done something like that the book would have been a little better. I still enjoyed the book and think you will to. If you are interested in werewolves or just want a change of pace this book is for you.

If you are wondering if there is a way to read and listen to books from your library for free on your phone or tablet without using amazon there is. There is this amazing app called overdrive that connects to your library and allows you download books for your consumption any where. And if they don’t have the book your looking for more than likely you can recommend it and it will show up soon.

Morals?

I love books that make you think about right and wrong. Have you ever thought about what happens when a person who has done every bad thing under the moon gets swindled; is he entitled to justice? What if the person who swindles him is even more terrible? I recently thought about all of this when I read this book called SIX OF CROWS. The author is Leigh Bardugo she also has a series centered around grisha. The main characters in the six of crows are Kaz, Inej, Nina, Mathias,Jesper, and Wylan. Their leader (Kaz) gets offered a deal that will make all of them enough money to achieve all their personal goals. However they must break into the most secure building in the world. As you follow them on their journey I am sure you will nearly always be on the edge of your seat.

Kaz is crippled and always walks with a cane. He also always wears a pair of gloves many people have theorized why but the truth is beyond their imagination. Inej is Kaz’s ‘spider’ or assassin/spy. Inej has been with Kaz the longest and they share a special bond. Nina is a grisha (person with special power). Nina is known as a heart render or someone able to manipulate the human body. Mathias was special soldier in the country they are ‘invading’. He hunted grisha, that is until he met Nina. He struggles with questions of loyalty and has trouble excepting Nina. Jesper was a farm boy until he went to the city to get an education and instead racked up a crazy amount of debt gambling which he continues to add to. He is an excellent shot and is notorious for the fact that he almost never misses. Wylan is mathematics and scientific genius but wall he may excel in these subjects he has one major flaw other than the fact that he is way to trusting. He is the teams demolition expert/hostage.

The second book is called the crooked kingdom. The crooked kingdom begins close to where the first book ended and it includes a whole bunch of unforeseen happenings. And it completes the stories of our six heroes.

So you heard me say grisha slot right and you are probably wondering what they are. Well grisha are people with special abilities manly from the country of Ravkan.(don’t quote my spelling). There are five main types of grisha from what I can tell there are grisha that control the body (like Nina), there are grisha that control matter they are called fabricators, then there is what I refer to as the elemental trio. There three elemental grisha one type that controls fire, one type that controls water, and one type that controls air. There are probably way more types of grisha but those are the ones that you’ll see in the books. If you see any others let me know in the comments section found below or on your right.

Fantasy

Who is a fan of fantasy, show of hands? Who has no idea what a fantasy novel is, also show of hands? Who didn’t raise their hand because it would be pointless since I can’t see you? (that should be all of you.) Any who.

A fantasy novel is novel most often set in a medieval or earlier period (see lord of the rings). Though some (Percy Jackson series) are set in modern times. Fantasy as defined by google is a fiction genre set in an imaginary universe, often but not always without any locations, events, or people from the real world. Most fantasy uses magic or other supernatural elements as a main plot element, theme, or setting. Magic and magical creatures are common in many of these imaginary worlds. And there is what I mean when I say fantasy. OK now that we have gotten that out of the way let’s move on to the reason I assume you are all here reading these words instead of a book.

I recently found my self interested in a series known as the Ranger Apprentice. IT is a story about a young teenage (14) and how he finds himself part of the life of one of the most mysterious organizations in the kingdom. The Story for the most part revolves around this boy (Will) and his mentor (Halt) as well as his best friend (Horus). And yes I probably spelled that wrong. Will and Halt are part of a group known as the Ranger Corp. A group of people in close confidence to the king. Their modern day equivalent would be the CIA or the KGB or some other spy group. Their main objective is to gather information but they also sabotage, plan battles or strategize, and generally accel at finding the places with the most danger and getting unerringly tangled up in things.

In the first book Horus is actually Will’s enemy and takes extreme joy in bullying him. However later on their relation through some amazing and unprecedented happenings grows into a friendship that only death could part. Horus is not extremely clever nor does he wish to be he is content to leave the thinking to his ranger friends however that doesn’t make him any less dangerous in a fight. Horus is gifted with some of the most natural fighting abilities he is almost inhuman. Halt is extremely wise and clever not to mention skilled with a bow. However he is lacking in sense of humor or so everyone thinks. Halt is also surprisingly short. Will takes after Halt in most ways except that he is still extremely inexperienced.I think the series is excellent and some of the ideas the righter expresses are very unique. If you have found recently that you are predicting the endings of stories this series just might throw you for a loop.

Vampires

Personally I love vampire stories. They really make you think about ethics and the drive behind people’s decisions. Vampires, are they inherently evil? Are terrible murders the only thing they are capable of? Or are they just as able to perform acts of good as a normal person? These questions are like a base line for a lot of vampire stories. Most recently I read a book titled DEPARTMENT 19. It is an amazing book and the following book is just as good in my opinion. However I feel like the author fell into a sort of trap that is super easy to do. They made the quest for love seem less important than the other goals that the hero has. They made love outside of family seem less important. Now that is just the feeling I left the book with but maybe I am being a little harsh, maybe the book will really connect with you. so here are the titles and their summaries. If decide to read this series or any of the others I have posted on leave a comment on what you thought about the book.

Department 19 by Will Hill:
There is a supernatural battle going on right underneath our noses that dates back more then a century. And Jamie has just been thrust right into the middle of it. Department 19 is a top secret British facility created for the sole purpose of monitoring and destroying vampires. Can Jamie make the cut as a field operator or is his goal doomed to failure? you’ll have to read the book to find out.

Department 19, The Rising:
Sixteen-year-old Jamie Carpenter is now sixteen years old and his life was recently flipped upside down when department 19 brought him to there top secret facility that doesn’t exist, Jamie recently destroyed the second most powerful vampire in the world. But now a new problem has arisen and it doesn’t just effect him it will effect the entire world. This problem is known as Dracula. Will the legendary vampire rise to once more destroy or will Jamie and the people of department 19 put a stop to his rise from the grave?

Department 19, Battle Lines:
Department 19 19 begins to rebuild after the devastating attack by the vampires and the loss of their commander the director of department 19.And Jamie has been put in charge of training his own batch of new recruits.

And just when you think things cant’ get any worse of course they do. Especially when worse comes in the form of several prisons worth of bad guys getting turned into vampires and escaping. And one of the escapees has a connection to one of the darkest moments of Department 19 and he threatens to reveal the existence of vampires to the public. Not to mention everyday Dracula gets a little stronger bring us ever closer to the moment when he will unleash destruction on humanity otherwise known as zero hour.

Department 19, Zero Hour:
Department 19 still fights against the evil in the world. But for how much longer? As Dracula continues his rise from the grave, people of Department 19 wait and hope for good news. But hope is in short supply and the country is beginning to break apart as the public learns of the horror in their midst. Not to mention a cure for vampirism remains far in the future and the only vampire who seems not to want the world to full in to utter chaos and destruction hasn’t been seen for weeks.

Jamie Carpenter and his friends are working tirerlessly to keep the forces of darkness from over running the world, but their resolve is beginning to wain… That is until familiar faces from the past reappear bringing news that could turn the tide of the war. News that sends Jamie and Larrisa into the farthest corners of eastern Europe, where something beyond there wildest dreams waits for them.
Something that could stop Dracula forever. But time is running out.darkness is coming. And Zero Hour is almost here…

Treasure Hunting?

I read a book called Artemis Fowl a while ago and I posted in the comments that I was going to do a review on a treasure hunting book in one of my blog posts. Artemis Fowls is an amazing series and while the first book is really the only one that deals with real treasure i still thought it was great series to d o review on. In the first book Artemis is 12 years old and a genius However his mother is sick and his father reportedly dead. His family has long been the crime lords behind the seen however his father tried to change that but ended up supposedly dead and the fowl fortune lost with him. The book follows Artemis and his target through the many twists and turns of his ingenious planning. It is spectacular while he never really searched for treasure he did end up with cart full of gold. So I think it counts.

By: Eoin Colfer

Artemis Fowl Book 1: Twelve-year-old villain Artemis Fowl is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history. His bold and daring plan is to hold a leprechaun to ransom. But he’s taking on more than he bargained for when he kidnaps Captain Holly Short of the L.E.P.-recon(Lower Elements Police Reconnaissance Unit). For a start, leprechaun technology is more advanced than our own. Add to that the fact that Holly is a true heroine and that her senior officer Commander Root will stop at nothing to get her back and you’ve got the mother of all sieges brewing!

Artemis Fowl Book 2; The Arctic Incident: Someone has been supplying Class A illegal human power sources to the goblins. Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit is sure that her arch-enemy, thirteen-year-old Artemis Fowl, is responsible. But is he? Artemis has his own problems to deal with: his father is being held to ransom and only a miracle will save him. Maybe this time a brilliant plan just won’t be enough. Maybe this time Artemis needs help…

Artemis Fowl Book 3; The Eternity Code:Artemis Fowl is going straight-as soon as he pulls off the most brilliant criminal feat of his career . . . but his plan goes awry, leaving his loyal bodyguard, Butler, mortally injured. Artemis’s only hope of saving his friend is to employ fairy magic; so once again he must contact his old rival, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon fairy police. It is going to take a miracle to save Butler, and Artemis’s luck may have just run out. . .

Artemis Fowl Book 4; The Opal Deception: After his last run-in with the fairies, Artemis had his mind wiped of his memories of the world below ground. But they have not forgotten about him. Once again, he must stop the human and fairy worlds from colliding – only this time, Artemis faces an enemy who may have finally outsmarted him.

Artemis Fowl Book 5; The Lost Colony:Ten thousand years ago, humans and fairies fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear to the fairy families that they could never win, they decided to move their civilization underground and keep themselves hidden from the humans. All the fairy families agreed on this, except the 8th family, the demons. The demons planned to lift their small island out of time until they had regrouped and were ready to wage war on the humans once more. However the time spell went wrong, and the island of Hybras was catapulted into Limbo, where it has remained for ten thousand years.

Sci-Fi

The Cubs won the world series for the first time in 108 years! And I thought the royals had been waiting for a while to win last year.

Book 3 Demons and Druids:Daniel X’s hunt to eliminate each and every intergalactic criminal on Earth is always relentless, but this time, it’s getting personal. First REVIEW

Hey readers this is my first book review so cross my finger hope you like.

Nightshade Series: Written by:Andrea Cremer,

This is a great series it follows the point of view of the ‘chosen one’s’ girlfriend. Which I found to be a super interesting way to go about writing a book. For those of you who are just finding out how much fun it is to read usually a book’s main character is the ‘chosen one’ or the person with a special ability that no one else has. Instead this book follows the hero’s love. I would say for those that feel like they have been reading the same stereotypical stories over and over again and can now predict everything that is going to happen chapters in advance this book will definitely surprise you at every page.

Nightshade book 1:  Calla is the alpha female of a shape-shifting wolf pack. She is destined to marry Ren Laroche, the pack’s alpha male. Together, they would rule their pack together, guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But then, Calla saves a beautiful human boy, who captures her heart. Calla begins to question everything – her fate, her existence, and her world and the orders the Keepers have asked her to follow. She will have to make a choice. But will she follow her heart if it means losing everything, including her own life?

Nightshade book 2;Wolfsbane: Calla Tor wakes up in the lair of the Searchers, her sworn enemy, and she’s certain her days are numbered. But then the Searchers make her an offer-one that gives her the chance to destroy her former masters and save the pack-and the man-she left behind. Is Ren worth the price of her freedom? And will Shay stand by her side no matter what? Now in control of her own destiny, Calla must decide which battles are worth fighting and how many trials true love can endure and still survive.

Nightshade book 3; Bloodrose: Calla has always welcomed war. But now that the final battle is upon her, there’s more at stake than fighting. There’s saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay’s wrath. There’s keeping her brother, Ansel, safe, even if he’s been branded a traitor. There’s proving herself as the pack’s alpha, facing unnameable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers’ magic once and for all. And then there’s deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is.

For background check out the prequel series. I thought it was OK but personally enjoyed nightshade a lot more.

book 1/Rift:Sixteen-year-old Ember Morrow is promised to a group called Conatus after one of their healers saves her mother’s life. Once she arrives, Ember finds joy in wielding swords, learning magic, and fighting the encroaching darkness loose in the world. She also finds herself falling in love with her mentor, the dashing, brooding, and powerful Barrow Hess. When the knights realize Eira, one of their leaders, is dabbling in dark magic, Ember and Barrow must choose whether to follow Eira into the nether realm or to pledge their lives to destroying her and her kind. With action, adventure, magic, and tantalizing sensuality, this book is as fast-paced and breathtaking as the Nightshade novels.

book 2/Rise:Everything Conatus stands for is at risk. Hoping to gather enough resistance to save their order, Ember and Barrow attempt a desperate escape. But fate offers little mercy. When their mission is exposed, the couple faces relentless pursuit by the supernatural horrors that act on the commands of Eira’s ally: the mysterious Bosque Mar. A shocking revelation forces Ember out of hiding, sending her back into the heart of dark magic at Tearmunn keep, where she must convince her old friend Alistair of her love or face dire consequences. Ember’s deception offers the only change for the resistance to succeed, but what she discovers in the shadows beneath the keep will shatter her world and bring about the Witches’ War.

Don’t forget to comment. Please let me know if this was informative and if you liked the series.
